Top evergreen old classic comedy movies that never gets old

GOL MAAL (1979)

IMDB Rating: 8.5/10

Does this movie even need an introduction? If yes, then I don’t know which universe you belong to! This movie outsmarts every other creation of Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Gol Maal is somewhat like “The Comedy Of Errors”. The premise is quite simple but as the movie progresses, the simplicity turns into hilarious confusion, messiness, and errors. The brilliant rapport between Utpal Dutt and Amol Palekar produced an everlasting classic comedy. The humor flows very naturally throughout the movie without getting loud or forced at any point. A very light-hearted tale of twists and turns, this movie is a multiple-time watch.

JAANE BHI DO YAARO (1983)

IMDB Rating: 8.4/10

This movie falls in the category of dark comedy. A great script, genius actors, and good dark humor are what this film has. Unlike any other movie, this one has victims and villains. In many ways, Jane Bhi Do Yaaro stands relevant to the present world. This cult classic is a satire portraying how triumph favors the powerful and injustice sides with the victims with some giggles along the way.

ANGOOR (1982)

IMDB Rating: 8.3/10

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy Of Errors”, this movie hit the silver screen in 1982. The story revolves around two characters, each in a double role with the same names. The film’s brilliance lies in the casting- late actors Sanjeev Kapoor and Deven Verma. The acting and comic timings of both the actors are a delight to watch. I personally liked Deven Verma more. He made comedy adorable, classy, and clean. The recreated spoof version of an old classic song ‘Preetam Aan Milo’ was at its wittiest best. With movies like Judwa and Judwa 2 where comedy has become gaudy, “Angoor” comes as a great relief.

CHUPKE CHUPKE (1975)

IMDB Rating: 8.3/10

This movie is one of the masterpieces of Hrishikesh Mukherjee. It is more than a love story between a Botany student and a professor displayed by Sharmila Tagore and Dharmendra, respectively. For me, the ‘jijaaji’, played by Late Omprakash stole the show. His unbeatable comical expressions can’t let you stop your laugh. The complete story revolves around making a mockery of him by Dharmendra supported by Asrani, Amitabh Bachchan ( in a cameo), and David Abraham. A family entertainer, this movie is best to beat these lockdown blues.

PADOSAN (1968)

IMDB Rating: 8.1/10

Do I have to say anything about this movie?. A super fantastic cast starring Kishore Kumar, Mehmood, Sunil Dutt, and Saira Banu accompanied by a well-scripted storyline, has me in-splits every time I revisit this movie. Apart from the acting of the cast, this movie also has some immortal melodies of Kishore Kumar. Also, the wackiest performance of Kishore Kumar and Mehmood on ‘Ek Chatur Naar’, cannot be missed!
